Question: If laying this over linoleum/vinyl does it need to be glued down ?
Answer: No. You can lay it right over the top. However, if you need a vapor barrier beneath your flooring, vinyl will provide this and you don't need anything else. The only reason for using this would be to provide some additional thermal and acoustical insulation. It will also make your flooring more comfortable to walk on.
-
Question: can this be used under Forbo Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal?
Answer: Yes, it can.
-
Question: Is this an air barrier as well as a vapor barrier? I'm wondering if we need to use an additional air barrier like an Intello membrane below it if we use it over an unconditioned/vented crawl space.
Answer: It does not create an airtight seal. Actually air flow is encouraged to help prevent moisture buildup under the floor.
-
Question: What's best underlayment over top of an existing vinyl tile floor to use over that and under Marmoleum click loch I plan to lay down ?
Answer: Technically you don't need to use any underlayment as vinyl tile will act as a vapor barrier. However, if you wish to use the QuietWalk Plus, it is a vapor barrier as well. In addition, it will provide extra cush, as well as some thermal and acoustical insulation.

Question: Do you need to do a double glue down application of Quietwalk Plus? Or can you only glue the top side of Quietwalk Plus to engineered wood flooring (ie not glue Quietwalk Plus to concrete subfloor)?
Answer: If you FLOAT a floor over QuietWalk Plus, you do not need any glue at all. But if you want to use glue, then you would do a Double Glue Down. You glue QuietWalk Plus to the subfloor, then you glue the engineered wood to the QuietWalk Plus. Although this can be done, it is not necessarily the ideal application. Please call us if you want to discuss it further.

-
Question: How does QuietWalk compare with STEICO wood fiber underlayment?
Answer: QuietWalk Plus is non-toxic and designed to be a vapor barrier and an underlayment all in one. It also has a very low R-value which is better for radiant heated subfloors. It also provides more cush to any floor applied over it.Steico's product are also non-toxic; however, they are stiff and open to water vapor, i.e. breathable. They do not block water vapor emissions as required by most manufacturers of engineered floating floors. It also has a much higher R-value which is good for thermal insulation, but not as good for radiant heated subfloors.

Question: Can you lay this down on a riveted metal floor of a van and then top with cork?
Answer: It is not meant to be used in that manner. There are so many versions of riveted metal, and the rivets could harm the integrity of the underlay.

Question: Hello, I am installing a click-lock engineered hardwood flooring on top of an existing wood floor. The manufacturer recommended underlayment is a 2-in-1 foam underlayment, max 1/8" thick. A vapor barrier is important here as the level directly below is the cellar (not heated) and there is no subfloor below the existing floor. Do you recommend MP Global, QuietWalk Plus for this situation? Thank you!
Answer: We suggest you contact the manufacturer of your engineered hardwood flooring to see if they approve of MP Global, QuietWalk Plus as an underlayment. Every engineered floor is different and, although we know QuietWalk Plus has been approved for the products we sell, it may not be suitable for the flooring you have.

Question: Can I use this under hardwood floors?

-
Question: I just received my sample of this underpayment and on the back it says that it has anti microbial protection. I thought this was made with zero antimicrobials. Did I receive the wrong one?
Answer: The Full rolls that we sell are made special for us without the antimicrobials, unfortunately the sample that we get from the company are the traditional samples that they make of the regular Quietwalk plus. ( They don't make special samples for us )If you would like a sample without the antimicrobial treatment, we could cut one out of an open roll we have left over, it just wouldn't have the card with the info about the product. If you have any further questions give one of our eco-advisors a call at 800-405-0222

Question: When installing on radiant floor heat with concrete slab Should we have the quiet walk plus go 2in up the wall as the direction per Marmoleum click flooring? Or trim it 0.5in from wall per the directions of quiet walk plus ? Marmoleum click flooring says have vapor barrier go up 2in on the wall, yet quiet walk says trim about .5in from wall. What should we do
Answer: We recommend you trim back the QuietWalk Plus about 1/2 inch from the wall and cover the space with quarter round molding.

Question: What underlayment do you recommend under electric radiant heat under stone tiles and over a thin concrete slab at grade? Thinking about a high R value and possibly a moisture barrier. Thank you!
Answer: Normally you don't want to use an underlayment when installing stone tiles, as this goes on with thin-set mortar directly onto the concrete slab.If you are convinced you need something, we would recommend you reach out to the company that makes the stone tiles or electric radiant heat to see what they recommend. They would be the only ones who would know what would work for your situation. As we do not sell stone tile or radiant heat, we don't have a clear idea.
-
Question: Can QuietWalk Plus be used over radiant heating?

Question: Would this product work to block bass sound coming from below? My neighbor below plays music at all times, and regardless of years of complaints the sound never stops. I am adding 1/2" pressed felt floor pads and 3"inch floor rugs to all my rooms. Would adding this on top of wood floors, below the felt padding add additional sound absorption? I was considering this product or cork. Thanks!
Answer: Quietwalk Plus insulates the floor and reduces ambient noise and floor-to-ceiling sound transmission. It is meant to be used under the floor, as opposed to over. It may help some but is not meant for the application you describe.
-
Question: it says to tape seams with duct tape. am I reading that right?
Answer: The instructions call for duct tape or a quality strapping tape, yes, when joining butted edges together or other applications (like cutting around obstacles) where the attached tape strip will not work.
-
Question: We are installing glue down solid bamboo in a condo, I have read that this underlayment is good for glue down but I would like to confirm that this is in fact true. Could this be combined with a cork underlayment for a glue down?
Answer: QuietWalk Plus can be double glued i.e. glued underneath and then glued on top to most solid or engineered bamboo floors. However, be careful with condos that have lightweight concrete subfloors (softer, dusty, lighter colored) as they are difficult to glue to and require a special primer which is very toxic. I would not glue this to a cork underlayment as you will create a big mess. The sound deadening quality of QuietWalk Plus is better than 1/4" cork underlayment. There is no need for two layers of underlayment.

Question: We plan to float Marmoleum Click tiles in rows on the diagonal in our rectangular kitchen. What is the best direction in which to lay the QuietWalk Plus -- on the diagonal, lengthwise or crosswise?
Answer: Run the QuietWalk the length of the room (lengthwise).

Question: We plan to install floating cork flooring over cement slab at grade. A moisture barrier like Moisture Block is needed as our real-life experience of moisture migrates from the ground up, through cement. We also want QuietWalk: it's insulative, cushioning & moisture wicking. The cork floor manufacturer's installation pdf says don't install the floor over an underlayment more than 1/8" (0.125) thick. QuietWalk is .13" thick (.05" too thick). Plus .006" thick Moisture Block would exceed max allowable thickness by .056. I saw in another Q&A using both may be overkill, but I feel we need both. I'm confused about exceeding the manufacturer's allowed underlayment thickness. Can you clear up any confusion and can I use both underlayments together?
Answer: Quietwalk Plus is a recommended underlayment for Waterproof Cork, as is Moisture Block. Quietwalk does have a moisture barrier and is a vapor retarder, so Moisture Block is not necessary. Please refer to the installation guidelines regarding moisture protection and humidity levels before installing. It's important to measure and keep records of the relative humidity of the subfloor and the ambient air before, during, and after installation.

Question: R-value?
Answer: Per the Features and Benefits section of the product page: "Adds R-value - insulates the floor with added R-value of .5 "
-
Question: Can this be used with SPC vinyl planks (5mm) with 1mm padding already on them?
Answer: You will need to ask the manufacturer of the vinyl planks if something like this is allowed when it already has padding on it.
-
Question: How does this underlayment perform for someone with lots of pain in the lumbar & thoracic areas of the human spine?
Answer: QuietWalk Plus is only 1/8" thick and provides some additional cushion to your wood, bamboo, linoleum or cork or vinyl floating floor. It's not as springy as sponge rubber. It is designed to be quiet and to help smooth out small imperfections in the subfloor. It was never intended as a medical treatment and is therefore difficult to say how well it will perform. More attention should be given to the floor that is above it. We would recommend our cork flooring of the most resilient floor. Question: I'd like to lay down Marmoleum click tiles on a slightly uneven concrete basement floor. Will QuietWalk Plus do the trick or should I consider a separate moisture vapor and a thicker cushioning underlayment?
Answer: You don't want to go with thicker padding. What you want to do is smooth that section of uneven floor via a cement leveler or a cement grinder. Per the marmoleum click cinch loc installation instructions (link below), "The subfloor must be flat to within 3/32" in 6' ..." -- If you were to use thicker padding, or not correct the unevenness, it will place a lot of strain on the clicking mechanism that holds the boards together, and the floor will fail. Same is true if you just use QuietWalk without correcting the unevenness. Installation Instructions: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/core/media/media.nl?id=1038611&c=772072&h=5

Question: I am considering a marmoleum floor on a concrete slab. does the mp global pad provide cushion in addition to v barrier and noise reduction?
Answer: Yes, we recommend Quietwalk Plus for the Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc floating installation for all those qualities (cushion, vapor barrier, noise reduction), as well as its ability to wick moisture.

Question: Can you use this under carpet? I'm laying Earthweave carpet with the horsehair padding.
Answer: QuietWalk Plus can be used with floating, nail down, and glue down flooring. You may read the manufacturer's instructions to know exactly how it should be used (link follows). But it is NOT intended for use under carpets. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/core/media/media.nl?id=191013&c=772072&h=96
