A couple options to consider are from the Vermont Natural Coatings products; Polywhey Exterior Penetrating Stain or the Exterior Penetrating Water Proofer. The Water Proofer will work well if you want the redwood to color naturally and you want the appearance of raw/unfinished wood. The wood will look unfinished unless it gets wet, and then water will bead up on the surface. It provides absolutely no UV protection. The Polywhey Stain has water proofer in it but also has color options which give UV protection and will minimize/mask the wood from greying. However, choosing the Caspian Clear PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Stain will also allow the wood to grey. With either sealer, two coats and needed, one immediately following the other.
