How do you prevent moths or other insects from eating the padding?

Moths don't eat wool. Only the larva eat wool when moths lay their eggs on top of the wool carpet. I seriously doubt they would ever eat into the pad which is beneath the carpet. Moths lay their eggs in the fall and as long as you vacuum well under couches/furniture and in closets once or twice a year, you should not have any issues.
