Forbo Marmoleum is a natural linoleum made with all-natural ingredients. It is the most sustainable flooring available and is completely different from vinyl, which is made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Many people confuse the two. Marmoleum sheet and tile require a professional installer and a perfectly flat subfloor. Most anyone with experience in laying vinyl can also install Marmoleum sheet but there are some differences. We recommend that they read the installation guidelines carefully and/or call us if they have any questions before they begin. The cost of the sheet, tile or floating click panels are all more than vinyl but there are many advantages such as: all-natural ingredients, non-toxic with no offgassing of hazardous chemicals, improved indoor air quality, less maintenance required, i.e. no waxing needed, brighter colors, longer lasting--usually 30-40 years vs. 10-15, lower carbon footprint, and biodegradable vs. producing dioxins like PVC when incinerated. We usually consider cost as how much we spend up front to buy the product, but there are always hidden costs and long-term costs to our health and to the environment. While Marmoleum costs more initially, the long term costs to your pocketbook and the replacement costs, as well as to the environment, are much much less. We maintain that Marmoleum is a more sustainable choice, a healthier choice, and a better investment for your money. Check out www.cfiinstallers.org or homeadvisors.com for installers.
