will the wool pad get compressed over time if located in a very heavily trafficked area (hallway) with rolling carts carrying heavy loads (300+ lb carts) ?

You would be better off getting glue down carpet or a hard surface. Those heavy loads are going to really crush carpet more quickly than normal. Call 641-323-6111 to help you walk through some hard surface options and discuss further.
