Is the product pretty soft? Also, what kind of pad would you recommend with this carpet?

Compared to hardwood or any solid surface it is very soft. This is short tight berber and is on the lower end of softness when compared to thick plush cut piles or loop piles. It's best to order samples to confirm what is best for you.For short berbers, a thicker pad may be beneficial to make if feel cushier. The pad we offer is 3/8" thick and made of 100% wool. It is suitable for most applications but is not as cushy as some rubber or urethane pads. However, it is completely non-toxic and does not off-gas any hazardous chemicals like the others.
