You are correct, that most overseas containers require spraying to remove the potential of damaging insects. However, that is done on the hardwood flooring or walls long before our cutting boards are brought on board. Also, our products are completely sealed in plastic and the boxes are then shrink wrapped while on the container. Totally Bamboo uses no pesticides/insecticide sprays on the products themselves. The Poly-Boo cutting boards are dishwasher safe, so as a precautionary measure, I would run them in the dishwasher before using.
