Can this be used to glue together an unassembled wood cabinet (in place of wood glue)? And if yes, how do you deal w smearing and mistakes given how fast it dries?

This is a heavy duty construction adhesive that works on almost all types of surfaces. However, it is quite thick and will not compress tightly like wood glues. Better to use something like Titebond II or Titebond III for wood to wood applications. These are non-toxic wood glues that are waterproof as well.
