Based on where you are doing the installation, (above, on or below grade, and what surface your subfloor is, and relative humidity) and if you want to add insulation to reduce impact noise can impact what underlayment you choose, and if you need to have an underlayment. Some subfloor situations require an underlayment, and others do not.
