We had some work done for which molding around the floors and doors was removed (and which we don't intend to replace). The contractors suggested using hot mud on the exposed areas before priming and painting (actually plastering in our case). Is ECOS Drywall Spackle an appropriate replacement for hot mud in this situation ?

Yes, assuming your are simply filling small holes or small indentations. Hot mud is drywall mud that sets up faster and is stronger than regular drywall mud. If you are plastering over this, the ECOS Drywall Spackle should work fine unless there is some other requirements not mentioned.
