Per AquaRain, "We like to advise our customers to make sure they actually do have fluoride in their water source. Many municipal water companies are no longer adding it to their water. We have had several customers contact us after giving them this information thanking us for checking...because indeed it was no longer being added to the water. That being said....no filter using conventional Granulated Activated Carbon removes fluoride, which is a very difficult contaminate to deal with. Some suppliers attempt to "remove" fluoride with an adsorptive compound of Activated Alumina (aluminum) that has a very short life time and exposes drinking water to a derivative of aluminum (not a good idea). Additionally, the implementation employed by the external cartridge does not follow the media manufacturer's recommendations and is only marginally effective. Initially, reduction of fluoride is in the low 90% range, but quickly drops to 30% or less at 50 gallons (according to laboratory testing). Lastly, hanging the external cartridge inside the clean water collection vessel may expose the clean collected water to contamination. If you have a fluoride problem and want to deal with it effectively, only Distillation or Reverse Osmosis will consistently work. Distillation requires constant maintenance, so I do not recommend it. While not energy-free, Reverse Osmosis is a very effective customizable low-maintenance solution that is not too costly. Its main drawback is the under-sink plumbing installation which may be challenging."
