A zero VOC, antimicrobial wall paint for behind walls, crawl spaces, attics & basements
Caliwel Industrial is a revolutionary, multi-patented, zero VOC, antimicrobial paint that effectively and responsibly resists the growth of mold, mildew, algae, fungi and odor causing bacteria on contact. As a tool for mold remediation, it will inhibit its re-growth for many years to come. As a superior surface treatment, it will guard against deterioration and discoloration caused by microorganisms.
It's unique award winning formula has three separate EPA approvals which required 7 years of testing. Unlike most antimicrobial products that contain pesticides or other harmful VOCs, Caliwel has no biocides, zero VOCs and is virtually odorless when dry.
Caliwel utilizes as its active ingredient calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime), which is a highly alkaline naturally occurring mineral with the longest history of clean and effective use. It's an important component in pharmaceutical and dental products, supplements, as well as dairy, sugar and baking industries. (For more info about the benefits of hydrated lime, see side bar to right.) Caliwel's proprietary Bi-Neutralizing Agent (BNA) safely prolongs the neutralizing power of calcium hydroxide while resisting degradation long after it has been applied.
Caliwel Industrial antimicrobial paint is a full substitute for conventional architectural latex paint. It is water-based, quick drying and easy to apply with a brush, roller or sprayer and takes effect immediately within minutes of application. Use on gypsum drywall, masonry/concrete, plaster, wood or sprayed foam surfaces. Caliwel Industrial is specifically designed for use indoors behind stud walls and in crawl spaces, attics and basement walls and floors.
Caliwel also provides excellent fire resistance. It has a flame Spread Index (FSI): 0, Smoke Developed Index (SDI): 0 and Class I FSI 0 - 25. Caliwel BNA has been tested under Protocol: ASTM E84-99 “Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Material” NFPA 255, ANSI/UL 723 and UBC 8-1.
It comes in an off-white translucent color and covers 250 square feet per gallon. Two coats are recommended. Ideal for all interior residential, retail, healthcare, eldercare and educational facilities, manufacturing and warehouse facilities. If you want a white color, then use the Caliwel Home and Office Mold and Mildew Inhibitor product.
NOTE: Due to potential interactions with the chemicals in Oriented Strand Board (OSB), the manufacturer recommends NOT applying this over OSB panels. Traditional plywood and solid dimensional wood such as 2x4 will accept Caliwel without issues.
NOTE2: Caliwel protects your surfaces from mold. However, should you decide to paint over it in the future, Caliwel will also protect the substrate core beneath it. We recommend waiting at least 6 months before painting as some paint may react with the high pH in Caliwel. As always, please test first before application.
The growth of mold can be damaging to your building and your health. Whether you are building new or remodeling an old structure, removal of pathogens and preventing their return is of utmost concern. It can be very expensive to mitigate and remediate old surfaces, not to mention the cost of health care to those affected by pathogens. Caliwel with BNA is a proactive approach to creating and maintaining a cleaner indoor environment without the use of biocides, pesticides or toxic chemicals.
At last, we've finally found a natural alternative that will not only mitigate your existing mold and mildew problems but will protect your home or office or warehouse for years to come. Unlike almost all mold killing products on the market from Microban to Tea Tree or Thyme oils to Concrobium, this product contains no VOCs, triclosan, pesticides or any strong odors. Now you don't have to worry that any potentially hazardous ingredients will leach out into your living space. Note: While this is a non-toxic product, it has a pH of 12.4 which should be applied with gloves and eye protection. Once it has dried, it will not react to your skin.

Mold/Mildew On Surface – scrape/remove all loose material.
New Drywall - repair holes/cracks by patching with joint compound and sanding. Sweep and wipe with a clean damp rag to remove sanding dust.
Masonry/Concrete –must cure for 30 days before coating. Remove form-release agents.
Plaster – bare plaster must be cured and hard. Textured, soft, porous or powdery plaster should be treated with 1 pint household vinegar to 1 gallon of distilled water. Repeat until surface is hard. Rinse and allow to dry.
Wood – sand exposed areas to a fresh surface. Fill nail holes and other surface damage with wood filler or putty. Sand smooth.
Previously Painted Surfaces – remove all loose paint, dirt, chalk and damaged substrate. Clean thoroughly to remove wax, grease and/or oil residue. Scuff-sand glossy surfaces. Wipe with a clean damp rag to remove sanding dust. Stains from water, smoke, grease, ink, etc. must be sealed with a suitable stain-blocking primer. We recommend ECOS Universal Primer.
Ceiling Materials – seal absorbent materials with suitable primer.
