Recycled energy efficient roofing tiles with slate look
Empire Slate is the second generation of synthetic slate tile made from post-industrial reycycled content offered by EcoStar LLC. It is backed by a 50 year limited material warranty or a 50-year Gold Star labor and material warranty. Available in a wide range of standard and custom colors, Empire Slate is an eco-friendly, lightweight, durable and easy-to-install alternative to natural slate roofing.
EcoStar has developed a new formulation of steep slope roof tiles that achieves both high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) performance, and low emissivity. In the warmer climates, both homes and commercial buildings are subject to thermal gain in daylight hours. The SRI of the Empire Slate tiles reduces this gain by reflecting the sun’s heat energy back into space, as opposed to being absorbed by the building envelope. The low emissivity rating works in the opposite way, allowing buildings to retain their heat energy in night time hours and reducing the Urban Heat Island effect.
Empire Slate thereby performs better than normal slate or asphalt shingles, conserves energy, has a lower carbon footprint, and is made in the USA with recycled rubber and plastic. It's designed for harsh climates such as: driving wind, hail, falling trees, fire and just about anything nature can deliver.
Listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Empire Slate meets the highest testing standards for wind resistance to 110 mph (D3161) in Dade County, Florida; Class C and Class A fire ratings (UL 790) and Class 4 impact resistance (UL 2218). Empire Slate also meets the American Society for Testing and Materials standard for fungus resistance (ASTM G21-09) and carries approval from the International Code Council (ESR-3325).
NOTE: must be applied in temperatures of 45 degrees or higher
Empire Slate lasts as long or longer than metal, clay tile, slate or concrete roofing. It also is more durable than these other roofing materials in terms of resistance to freeze-thaw, denting from hail, breakage from falling trees or from contractors working on its surface. Repairs, although rarely needed, are far easier and less expensive too.

EcoStar as outdone themselves by adding critical energy efficiency features to their popular recycled roofing tile. Aesthetically speaking, the color palette is extraordinary.
If you're thinking about clay tile, slate, concrete or metal roofing, talk to your neighbors first to find out the truth about actual costs of installation and repair — if they'll admit it. Don't forget the extra costs of structural engineering, rubber membranes and highly skilled labor. Working on a traditional slate, concrete or metal roof to repair a fallen tree or to install a solar panel, chimney or satellite dish is not only risky but very expensive as well.
Recycled rubber tile is virtually indestructible and impervious to the elements, plus it looks just like real slate. It requires no special engineering and installs with less expensive labor. Working on this roof to repair damages is far less risky and results in less damage to the trades-person and to the roof.
