BioShield : "The Natural Choice for Cleaner Air"
Who is BioShield?
In 1982, Rudolf Reitz founded Eco Design Company in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Reitz had a distinct vision to create and distribute eco-friendly products for the house and home. Initially, the company focused on natural wood finishes and paints and fine woodworking tools. In the '90s, the company's emphasis turned to a range of household products, including natural body care and organic fiber clothing.
Since 1997, the company has found its true niche. Today the company and its proprietary line, BioShield Paints, focus on producing stellar, non-toxic paints, wood finishes, and natural cleaners. Clearly, the company's environmentally safe and sound strategy was years ahead of the industry. In addition, the company possesses an outstanding creative spirit - offering collections with a superb sense of style and unusual textures and colors.
Why Use BioShield?
BioShield Paints strives to be the best in the industry, touting these special characteristics:
1. Uses the most natural and renewable resources available.
2. Uses the most health-friendly, least toxic, ingredients throughout the entire product line.
3. Features competitive pricing based on the cost of raw materials and fair labor pricing.
4. Superlative customer service.
5. Quality and freshness guarantee.
6. Low environmental impact and high social responsibility.
What are the Ingredients?
There are more than 10,000 chemicals that can be used in conventional paints; many of which are newly created chemical components with little research conducted regarding their long-term effects on both humans and the environment.
BioShield Paints maintains that many of these chemicals may lead to health problems or complicate existing conditions, and are better left out of the product mix.
BioShield Paints are made from fewer than 250 chemical components and more than 98 percent of these chemicals are naturally derived from plant sources and minerals. Compare that to most paints on the market which use 5000 + chemicals mostly syntheically derived. Many of the ingredients in BioShield Paints have been used for centuries or more. We choose raw materials that are low in toxic substances, renewable, and feature a low environmental footprint.
The BioShield collection of paints, stains, thinners, and waxes is made from such naturally derived raw materials as citrus peel extracts, essential oils, seed oils, tree resins, inert mineral fillers, tree and bee waxes, lead-free dryers, and natural pigments.
The mild fragrance that is special to BioShield products turns painting, finishing, and cleaning into a pleasant experience, and creates a serene home atmosphere.
While a number of products can be characterized as low-odor and non-allergenic, it is advisable that chemically sensitive individuals test all products for compatibility.
How Does BioShield Compare?
Each and every BioShield product we sell sets a high industry standard. By specifically opting for top-grade raw materials, BioShield insures that their products have extensive product lives and a high degree of color stability.
Note that some products need to be tested when used in extreme or commercial situations. Please call our customer service representatives for any specific questions.
The Product Lines
BioShield's product lines cover three areas:

The company continually introduces new products and collections - raising the bar on healthy alternatives to many household products.
Multiple Creative Possibilities
BioShield offers many basic materials for creating, modifying, coloring, and tinting your own paints. There are numerous books available in stores and libraries about painting, faux, and other techniques. Many of them provide recipes in which BioShield products can be used.
