Radiosity - Radiant Heat Barrier

Save 20-30% on your heating/AC bill

Tiny Glass Beads Added To Paint Can Save You Money

Radiosity 2000 is a paint additive that creates a radiant barrier on your roof, ceiling or walls.  It simply reflects radiant energy from the sun rather than absorbing it.  This keeps your building cooler in the summer and thereby saves on cooling bills.

In addition, it reflects back warm radiant heat inside a building so that it cannot escape.  This keeps your home warmer in the winter and saves on heating bills.

HOW DO RADIANT BARRIERS WORK?

Problem:  Sunshine hits the shingles on your roof. When this happens, the infrared (radiant) energy is transformed into heat energy and passes through your roof. At this point, heat energy is radiated by infrared energy into your attic. The roofing materials in attic become a large infrared heat source which transfer the heat down into your living areas.

Insulation helps to hold the heat inside your home but does not protect you from radiant energy. Radiant heat goes right through your insulation, no matter what thickness and no matter what type.

Solution: Radiosity 3000 blocks a significant portion of radiant heat. Heat producing infrared energy does not enter your home.  Instead it is reflected back outside.

How Radiant Barriers work

Radiosity 2000 reduces attic temperatures by 30 to 40 degrees. When attic temperatures are reduced, the loading on your air conditioning system is reduced.  And when your air conditioner is not working as hard, or as often, your electric bill is reduced.  Typical savings average 15 to 20%.

Other Benefits:  In addition to a radiant barrier, Radiosity 3000 also creates a harder paint surface due to the addition of the tiny glass beads. The harder surface makes the paint more durable and last longer.  This durability make the paint more washable.

How Much Will I Save?
Reducing attic and duct temperatures provide energy savings that average 15 to 20 percent .  Conditions that can affect this temperature vary from one home to the next.  The U.S. Department of Energy has performed studies on radiant barriers.  The D.O.E. has determined that a savings up to 42% can be realized from Radiant Barriers.  If you save energy, you save money.

Where Do You Use It?
Use Inside as well as outside.  Radiosity Radiant Barriers work in your attic, on exterior walls or on interior walls.  When applied to exterior walls or inside attics, the heat reduction lowers summer cooling costs and helps to protect the siding from heat as well.

Radiosity Radiant Barriers also work on interior surfaces on ceilings and especially south and west facing walls that heat up in the summer. These interior surfaces can be protected with Radiosity 3000.  Plus, the radiant heat generated from inside the home stays inside the home longer instead of radiating out through the walls.

Exterior metal roofs on commercial buildings, campers, RV's, mobile homes, can be protected by using Elastomeric paint and Radiosity 3000.  Elastomeric paints are more expensive to use than standard latex paints, but will expand and contract with the metal roof.  When applying Radiosity 3000 to the underside of metals roofs, Radiosity Vehicle can be used.  Radiosity Vehicle has been specially formulated for use inside attics.

Radiant Barrier Glass BeadsAt right is a microphotograph of Borosilicate Glass Beads used in Radiosity 3000.  These Glass Beads are hollow spheres and provide the basis of Radiosity Radiant Barrier Technology. When these glass spheres are added to paint, a radiant barrier is produced.  The radiant barrier reflects radiation in the infrared spectrum, which cools the space behind.

Radiosity 3000 is not an insulation but, due to it's nature, will reflect heat in the form of electromagnetic radiation.

How Does It Compare To Metallic Radiant Barriers?
Metallic radiant barriers are designed to reflect infrared radiant energy just as Radiosity 3000.  But in practice they are completely different.  That's because metallic radiant heat barriers require a shiny reflection and over time have been known to lose up to 50% of their effectiveness due to dust obstructing the barrier.

Radiosity 3000 also can be applied outside or inside a building very easily and quickly requiring very little labor.  It is especially effective in older buildings because nothing need be done before it is applied.  Just paint it on the wall, ceiling or attic. Metallic barriers have limited applications and must be stapled which requires extra labor expense.

Most types of paints can be used with Radiosity 3000.
For attic installations:
Any type of paint is acceptable.  We recommend AFM Safecoat.
For indoor wall and ceiling applications: Eggshell, semi gloss, or gloss must be used.  As slight color and texture changes can occur, test an area first for color and texture matching.
For metal roofing , spraying from the topside, use a high quality Elastomeric paint.  From underside, use AFM Safecoat.
