Non-toxic, waterproofing membrane for tile and stone
Schluter-KERDI is a pliable membrane designed to waterproof walls and shower floors prior to installation of tile or stone. Made of 8-ml-thick polyethylene in Germany with zero VOCs and no odor, KERDI is covered in both sides with a fleece webbing to anchor the membrane in ceramic tile thin-set mortar. Use it over regular sheet rock. There's no need for special green boards or waterproof drywall.
KERDI is available in in 39" widths and various lengths. Use KERDI-Band—the same material in 4-mil-thickness in 5" wide strips—to seal butt or corner joints. Use a 1/4" x 3/16 V-notched trowel for application.
Why We Like It
Schluter has invented the first water-proof system for showers. This non-toxic membrane replaces the smelly tar paper of old. Not only does it not off-gas, but it lasts far longer and performs much better. What's nice is that you don't need a special green board; just apply it over regular sheet rock.
