When you install your Marmoleum floor or countertop or have someone do it, it is crucial that the right Marmoleum adhesive and underlayment is used.
Marmoleum Click Cinc Loc
Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc floating floors (panels 12x36 or squares 12x12) are DIY and no glue or adhesive is necessary. Instead they are floated over most clean, dry and structurally sound subfloors. Moisture testing and ambient room temperatures must be followed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
When installing over a concrete subfloor or any subfloor with underfloor heating, a vapor barrier must be used. We offer a non-toxic vapor barrier called Moisture Block. This 6 ml polyethylene comes in 100 SF rolls and includes a tear off strip that allows you to connect each roll without additional tape. It emits no VOCs and has no odor, unlike most polyethylene sheeting.
Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is 3/8" thick and comes with a built in cork underlayment. However, an additional foam or other 1/8" thick underlayment may be used. This is an option and not a requirement. Why would you need an additional underlayment? If you wanted more thermal insulation on a basement floor or acoustical insulation on a second floor, underlayment can be beneficial.
Some underlayments come with a built-in vapor barrier. One such product is Quiet Walk Plus. This can be used in place of the Moisture Block if additional sound deadening or warmth is needed. Please refer to the manufacturer's installation guidelines.
Marmoleum Glue-Down Sheet and Tile
Forbo makes its own adhesive called Sustain 1195 designed specifically for their glue-down sheet and tile flooring. This adhesive is non-toxic, zero VOC and ultra low odor. It comes pre-mixed and ready to use in 1-gallon and 4-gallon pails and is spread with a 1/16 x 1/16 x 1/16 square notch trowel. It can be applied over a clean, dry, structurally sound plywood or concrete subfloor. One gallon covers approximately 125 SF and can be used on all Forbo glue-down tile (including MCT or Modular tile) as well as Forbo glue-down sheet (including Fresco, Real, Striato, Piano, Decibel, Slate, Splash, Terra, Vivace, and Walton).
NOTE: Forbo also makes several other types of adhesives for their sheet and tile when used on countertops, furniture, or other types of applications. Please call us toll-free at 800-405-0222 Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 or Saturday 10 to 4 CST for more info. You may also drop us an email.
For warranty purposes, Forbo requires the use of their own adhesives installed according to their installation guidelines. Use of any other type will void their warranty. Proper moisture testing of the subfloor must be done and environmental conditions need to be regulated.
Marmoleum glue-down sheet and tile are normally installed by professionals because they have the necessary tools and skills to prepare the subfloor properly and lay the flooring in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. NOTE: This is not a DIY type project. Most experienced flooring installers who have laid vinyl sheet or tile flooring are capable of installing Marmoleum sheet or tile. There are only a few differences that are easily learned. We suggest that your installer watch the videos on our website and call us (800-405-0222) before they begin if they need assistance.
