High to extra-high capacity central unit for waterless composting toilet
The Centrex 2000 AF series and 3000 AF series connect the central composting unit by means of a 10" diameter pipe to the Sun-Mar Dry Toilet, purchased separately. Odor-free operation is maintained by a fan which pulls air down through the toilet seat and up the vent stack. Sun-Mar water-free toilet systems can only be used where the toilet can be placed directly over the Centrex central composting unit.
Composting toilets use the natural process of decomposition to break down waste into usable nutrient-rich top soil. To begin the process, add microbes to the drum. As waste continues to enter the toilet, the drum must be turned at least every two to three days.
Solid waste must always be followed by a scoop of bulking material. When the toilet is half-full, the finishing process begins. Thirty days later, there's usable odor-free compost.
Electric (E) - Standard Model: If you have continuous 120v power, an electric unit is suggested. These feature a 370w 120v thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit, and a standard 30w turbo fan directing air up a 2" vent stack. The combination of fan and heater are able to evaporate up to nine litres of liquid per day; depending on usage there may be little or no liquid output.
Non-Electric (NE): If you have no electricity, then this is the right selection. Non-electric units are supplied with a 2.4w 12v fan to assist updraft on the 4" stack. The absence of heat and reduced air flow limits evaporation on NE units.
AC/DC: These dual-vented units, with both a 2" and 4" vent, are for those who expect to have 110v power in the future, or are running a generator for 12 or more hours per day.
Water-free air-flow (AF) units and relative capacity
The selection should be based on both whether the unit is used seasonally or residentially, and the number of people that will be using the unit.
Centrex 2000 AF - Batch Unit: Batch composting means that the catchment receptacle is filled, removed and allowed to decompose and cure, without the addition of more excrement. Thus, a toilet using a batch composting process typically requires more than one catchment chamber (i.e., composting reactor).
Centrex 3000 AF - Continuous Unit: Continuous composting means that the catchment receptacle is constantly receiving new waste materials, while at the same time producing finished product. A toilet using a continuous composting process usually requires only one catchment chamber.
All AF units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit. Liquid output, if any, should be collected or drained into an approved facility. Under seasonal or light residential use, the Centrex 2000 AF and Centrex 3000 AF should be able to evaporate all liquids; hookup of the drain is still recommended as a safety measure.
Please Note: All Centrex water free-systems are designed for use with the Sun-Mar Dry Toilet, purchased separately in white or bone; see accessories.
