Epicurean cutting boards are the next generation of solid eco-friendly food prep surfaces. They're made from the greenest solid kitchen surface on the planet and perform better than most cutting surfaces. They also have a warm appearance and feel.
Made in the USA from 50-100% recycled paper (see How It's Made below for more details), Epicurean cutting boards are saturated with a proprietary phenolic resin that is fused together under heat and pressure to create a completely non-porous surface. The result is a completely food-grade, non-toxic surface that will not harbor bacteria and is completely sanitary. Each board is certified safe by the National Sanitary Foundation (NSF).
Originally designed for use in skateboard parks, this highly durable composite material absorbs very little water, holds no odor, resists stain and bacteria and is dishwasher safe. It's also knife friendly, i.e. it won't dull your knives, is heat resistant to 350°F, and virtually maintenance free. Clean up is quick and easy as there's no need to use mineral oil or bleach. Find out why chefs have been using Epicurean cutting surfaces in commercial kitchens for decades.
Epicurean uses only Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood fiber in their commercial-grade composite for a healthy, sustainable environment.
Sanitary. Versatile. Durable. Responsible. Epicurean commercial cutting surfaces are ideal for chefs who demand performance in their kitchens and don't cut corners.
How It's Made:
Epicurean cutting boards are created from a paper composite material (layers of paper). Our material is made from many layers of high-quality custom craft paper. The rolls of paper are infused with resin before being cut to length and laid by hand. Each sheet is carefully stacked, alternating the direction of the paper, to achieve the ultimate balance and stability. The stacks are pressed under even heat and pressure, bonding the layers of paper together and curing the product. The sheets are then slowly cooled to produce a solid, stable food-safe sheet material called Richlite.
Richlite holds GREENGUARD Certification which ensures that a product has met some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of VOCs. Richlite’s formaldehyde emissions are well below EPA’s Formaldehyde Emission regulations. The stated allowable amount of formaldehyde emissions is .05ppm; Richlite’s emissions, as tested by UL and certified by GREENGUARD, are <0.00lppm.
We thought bamboo cutting boards were our favorite until we tried these. Unlike bamboo or maple butcher block, bacteria won't grow on them and they don't require oiling every few months. Unlike glass or granite they won't dull your knives. Unlike plastic, they have a lower carbon footprint and won't harm the environment. Nothing compares in terms of quality, low maintenance and sanitation. Throw one in the dishwasher and see how easy it cleans.
These boards will look great and perform well for a very long time. We realize that something this durable made of paper sounds strange, but once you try an Epicurean board, you'll see why we like them so much. This is a great gift idea, including for yourself.
