Application Instructions

FEATURES and BENEFITS:

• Permanently waterproofs because it penetrates 2 to 4 inches into the concrete or masonry and chemically bonds with the substrate--Unlike most topical sealers that just sit on the surface and eventually wear away.
• Actually strengthens the substrate by binding all the particles into a single mass and keeps it from deteriorating.

• Stops water penetration from the outside as well as from the inside of walls or floors.

• Does not contain any material foreign to masonry, nor does it contain any oils or solvents.
• Only requires two initial coats--unlike most other sealers that must be recoated every few years.
• Can be applied to new(see instructions below) or old concrete, dry floors and walls, unpainted surfaces.

Note: these products only work on surfaces that have not been previously sealed; or, where the previous sealer has worn off or has been removed. We do offer products that can remove old sealers or waxes.  Silicone based sealers must usually be sanded off.

GBS Colored Sealers has the same features and benefits of the GBS Penetrating Sealer except for a few differences:

1. This product dries to a slightly glossier finish than the matte finish of the GBS Penetrating Sealer. The more coats you apply the glossier it gets.
2. Because colors are made of pigments embedded in an acrylic resin that contain larger molecular structures, this product does not saturate as easily and must be applied in two coats for proper penetration. If one desires a lighter color, the second coat can be cut or mixed with our GBS Gloss Sealer.
3. The other major difference is in the timing of application. The GBS Penetrating Sealer may be applied just 14 days after concrete cures.  The GBS Colored Sealer, however, requires 12 months for the concrete to cure for indoor applications.  This is due to the nature of fresh concrete which is high in pH and its relationship with Acrylic which is low pH. 

This relationship can be made more friendly if GBS pH Reducer is used on the fresh concrete.  This will reduce the time required for application of the GBS Colored Sealer to about 14 days. The exact amount of waiting time will depend upon the concrete mix and the pH levels.

As always, you must test the pH levels and follow instructions carefully before use. If you test your concrete and it is in the 7-10 range, then you don't have to wait, but be sure to test several areas. It is our experience that concrete that is outdoors and exposed to rain and the weather tends to lower its pH much more quickly than indoors.
