Vegetable spray foam is a revolutionary new insulation product. It is a vegetable-based spray-in-place polyurethane foam insulation that creates an internal cavity, insulated, wind-proof barrier. The advantages of foam insulation are highly recognized by building professionals and the building science community. It is the most environmentally friendly insulation in the industry, while remaining very cost-effective.
Insulation in the past has been taken for granted. The assumption has always been that as long as there is some type of insulation in the walls, everything is fine. However, this is just not true. All insulation products are not created equal. There are many critical performance facets to an insulations system in a truly healthy home, and conventional insulations do not address all of these issues. See R-19 Fiberglass batting only delivers R-11 value .
R-Values are only a small portion of what creates the superior performance in a well insulated home. A seamless, insulated, wind-proof barrier in addition to an affective R-Value will complete your insulation system. Health, draft free comfort, and superior energy efficiency are easily achieved with foam insulation system. Benefits.
What is vegetable-based foam and how does it work?
Spray-in-place insulation is an innovative, ultra-light weight, two-part vegetable oil-based polyurethane. It is an open-cell, semi-rigid foam that in one step provides a sealed, thermal envelope that simplifies constructions practices.
This first-of-its-kind foam insulation has been formulated with the environment in mind. It emits no VOCs or CFCs. It behaves much like a petroleum-based plastic foam, without any of the environmental side effects. Vegetable foam contains no formaldehyde.
This product is one of the most environmentally friendly insulation in the industry.
Vegetable spray foam penetrates every cavity and even the tiniest crevasses, expanding 100 times its original liquid size for a perfect air-sealed fit. When expanded it creates millions of tiny air pockets that result in an effective R-values.
More importantly, it creates an insulated, seamless, wind-proof barrier that eliminates air infiltration, the number one cause of energy loss in a home. In one step spray foam provides a sealed, thermal envelope, simplifying construction practices. The result is a super efficient, healthier and more comfortable home.
We use Demilec brand foam. Demilec is one of the leaders in the foam industry and has developed several product that we prefer: AgriBalance which is a blend of urethane and vegetable oils. We also offer Sealection 500 which is straight urethane foam. Click here for more info.
How Far Will We Travel?
Territory covered:North to Minneapolis, West to Omaha, South to St. Louis, East to Chicago.
What Does It Cost?
New construction; residential or commerical: AgriBalance (corn/soy/vege mix) and Selection 500 (regular urethane). The cost for Agribalance is $1.65 per square foot or $1.45 for Selection 500@ 3 1/2" thick for most residential wall applications. Thicker applications can be done if desired. For attic applications in between the roof trusses we spray 5" thick which will cost $2.05 per square foot for Agribalance and $1.95 for Selection 500. We also will spray the box sills and top plates extra thick as well.
For metal buildings with metal roofs and walls: vegetable based insulation can be sprayed effectively at even less cost because there are usually fewer windows and doors and the speed of insulating is much greater. These are priced on an individual basis. Please call for quotes.
Remodeling: foam can only be sprayed in an open wall, ceiling or floor cavity. It can not be used through a hole in the drywall. However, if you have an older home with inadequate insulation in the attic or crawlspace, foam can be sprayed. The costs involved may be more than new construction because these areas are particularly difficult to access. Therefore, they are priced on an individual basis. Please call for quotes.
Got a tough situation? The beauty of vegetable based foam is that it can be sprayed almost anywhere as long as we reasonable clearance to spray and can get the equipment close enough to the wall or ceiling. Please call for quotations.
