Thickness describes the actual height of the cushion but is not a critical factor in performance. In fact, a thicker cushion is not always better.
Density and firmness are important measurements of quality and performance. A higher density cushion with firmer construction allows the cushion to spring back to its original shape longer than a thicker but less firm cushion.
