Nature's Carpet is untreated and 100% non-toxic. If you want the purest 100% wool carpet for your home, look no further. Nature's Carpet is manufactured with the strictest standards in order to assure the finest, safest products, especially for those with chemical sensitivities. It is available in a tight, dense, short berber in natural earthtone colors.
How is it made? Nature's Carpet offers a collection of fine carpet made entirely from natural materials including: New Zealand wool, natural rubber and jute. Below are the ingredients and processes used to manufacture this eco-carpet:
The wool fibre comes from sheep raised in isolated organically fertilized fields rather than chemically-fertilized areas.
During the washing process and production process no toxic chemicals are used.
Nature's Carpet is manufactured in special runs at woolen mills in Denmark and Australia. Custom procedures are implemented to insure that all synthetic toxic chemicals are removed prior to production.
Either natural dyes or no dyes are used to create the subtle colors of the wool.
All natural latex glue from rubber trees is used to bind the wool to the natural jute backing.
No mothproofing or other surface treatments are applied.
- The wool in Nature's Carpet is tested regularly for health effects in order to meet the high standards set by the manufacturer. (ASTM E 981, done by Anderson Laboratories, Vermont)
Rolls are made in 12' widths.
Q. I am allergic to almost all drapery and soft floorcovering. How can I know for sure Nature's Carpet will be right for me?
A. The first carpets in the collection were introduced, on a limited basis, in the early nineties. The results of an initial two-year evaluation of the carpet, in the homes of people with high levels of sensitivity to chemical toxins, were outstanding. Further evaluation in the five years since also confirmed and built on this remarkable debut.
We have submitted Nature's Carpet to CRI green label program and of course all passed with ease and are approved with the cri green label. Click here for more info on CRI.
Q. What do you do to ensure the carpet is of low toxicity?
A. The Nature's Carpet collection consists of fine carpet pile made entirely from wool, a renewable resource. The wool is cleaned in a dedicated cleansed scour, and none of the chemicals employed in the mothproofing of regular wool products are present. As a result, our clean scoured wool is totally biodegradable and even recyclable at the end of its long life as a floorcovering.
Spinning of the wool takes place in a plant which has been carefully allocated for handling only 100% natural source material. The chemical latex used in regular carpet, is replaced with a nontoxic latex made from a natural rubber base. The natural qualities of this latex are evident in the softness and flexibility of the carpet.
The attractive range of colours in the Nature's Carpet collection are achieved by employing vegetable dyes or naturally occurring colours in the wool. No chemical dyes are used. Just like the wool that lies on the sheep's back through intense sunlight, rain, sleet and snow, our carpets have natural colourfastness to protect against fading.
Finally, the dual backing of the carpet is manufactured from natural jute, a vegetation fibre product produced without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and provides employment to peoples in Bangladesh and other developing countries. The low percentage of chemicals, at every stage of the carpet's manufacture and composition, means there is little or no toxic off-gassing, the principal cause of suffering to chemically sensitive individuals.
Indeed, unlike wood or linoleum, Nature's Carpet forms an efficient dust trap, lowering the amount of airborne particles that cause discomfort to some people (these particles may, of course, be safely and easily removed with a high efficiency vacuum cleaner), The added benefits of sound-absorption and insulation accentuate the utility and pleasant comfort of this extraordinary product.
How should I maintain Nature's Carpet?Wool has a natural, inbuilt resistance to soilage, and naturally repels water-borne stains, providing the spilled liquid is removed promptly at the time it occurs. Spot cleaning instructions are available on request. For full cleaning, insist that a hot water extraction method is employed, to minimize chemical contact.
Loop pile carpets should be vacuumed only with a suction head, and not with beater bars, except to remove surface build-up of wool pills, should they occur. Cut pile carpet should be vacuumed with beater bars, as they will revitalize the carpet and reduce felting.
